“We as a family, with gratitude, thank you for all the encouragement and support you provided our daughter to navigate the college admission process.  Your patience and promptness is something that we admire. Now she has the task of making a hard choice because each university that has accepted her (Yale, Princeton, MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Johns Hopkins, Penn, Dartmouth) has its own merit and standing. At this time she appears to lean towards Yale. Personally, I would have chosen Johns Hopkins for its value (full ride scholarship of 45K annually). Once again, I thank you for your guidance and expertise.”

“I was very blessed to find someone who could explain to me what all of those questions meant, how I could found their answers, and, more important, to find a friend who helped me to not giving up during my way. I was accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, CalTech, Penn, Dartmouth, and Cornell.”

“I am Brazilian and, for someone who is not American, going through the application process is a big deal. Not only everything is totally new, but also I was not used to having so many personal questions together. So, I was very blessed to find someone who could explain to me what all of those questions meant, how I could found their answers, and, more important, to find a friend who helped me to not giving up during my way. I was accepted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, CalTech, Penn, Dartmouth, and Cornell. Working with Wes was for sure a really important factor in all my acceptances, because he was able to, as only few people can, help me to discover two important things: the person I would show in my application and the force that was in myself, my family and my friends, and would help me to keep going on.”

“Ellie, where do we begin? The first time our daughter came home from meeting with you, she said simply, ‘”I love Ellie.”‘ It only got BETTER from there. I’m not exaggerating. You are magic. I’m not sure I can think of a time when the distance between how much a kid tends to be stressed over something and how much she actually was, was greater. (There is probably some correcting needed in that last sentence, but I’ll move on as I’m so excited to tell you more). The whole process of writing the college app was actually something she looked forward to doing on her own! She was happy, proud, a better writer, and her parents came out glowing in this!! We didn’t have to say a word. You have our most resounding endorsement to keep doing this forever. Pitch perfect is RIGHT. Thank you and thank you again!! I have a feeling she will continue to intersect your world. We are indebted.”

I consider myself extremely lucky to have met you, let alone to have worked with you. My mom puts it well when she says I seek your approval more than hers! When I draft an email, I think, ‘“How would Wes format this?”’ When I sit down to write an essay, I recount your reflection methods. You and your kind nature have left an indelible impact on me, and I am grateful.”

Without your guidance, I doubt whether I would have been admitted to my dream school. I know for certain that, without your help, I would not have been able to submit an application nearly as strong as what I submitted with your help. “Upon meeting Wes for the first time, it was instantly obvious that he is one of the kindest, warmest people I’d ever met. During my senior year of high school, I started out rather afraid of the college application process. I had no idea what to write in my Personal Essay and supplements, so I went to Wes hoping for some direction and inspiration. Within our first session together, my perspective on the application process changed, 180º! Wes inspired me to look deep into myself and write about what makes me feel, what makes me think, what makes me wonder and be creative. He simply prompted me to talk and reflect on what I care about. The way in which he did this was so insightful, worded so honestly and artfully; but he also left all the power to me, so that the essays would be completely my own. He made the application process an enjoyable and educational experience for me. He also asked me questions that helped me figure out which college was truly the right match for me. And now, here I am with a Presidential Scholarship to Bennington College — happy, inspired, and very thankful. (Hard to be laconic when talking about such a great person!)”

“Wes is one of the landmark people in my life. My final year of high school was a swirling period of transformation and growth, and Wes was there at the kickoff. He nudged me in the right directions without dictation and asked the best, most difficult questions without my feeling uncomfortable. The college application process was exhilarating at times when many other students were groaning; Wes made writing the essays beautifully cathartic and worthwhile, providing invaluable insight and suggestion every step of the way.

“But Wes was more than a terrific college counselor who helped me get into the right school … much more. He became a unique teacher, mentor, and friend in the sense that he wasn’t a part of my in-school life, nor was he a parent or peer. I can talk about life, the universe, and everything with him — literature, love, family, philosophy. There will always be a place for Wes in my future.”

“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  Your incredible team was essential to the success of our eldest son’s early admission to Harvard and our daughter’s early admission to Brown.  Our youngest daughter in 9th grade already loves working you through Passion Starter as well!  We tell all of our friends about you and how you made navigating the college application process as pain- and worry-free as it could possibly be for the most worrisome family there is.  It’s such a relief to know that a real expert is working with your children and that we can let go of the reigns and not worry about anything. You answered all our questions promptly, you were always there for us to shine a light, and with your guidance, we were secure and confident.  Your knowledge of the admissions process is remarkable, but more than that, it was an incredible experience to watch our children grow – not only as writers, but as people – while working with you.  They were always talking about what you had said or suggested.  But that’s just us – wait until you hear how our children rave about you!”

She loves the traditions at Dartmouth, the dorms, the beautiful campus and surroundings and how special and club-like it is. She loves the energy at Penn, and the many research and academic opportunities there including the Oxford year abroad program (she visited Oxford last week and fell in love with it).  She likes the “fun”  feeling at Duke, the weather, and the campus.”

“I had the pleasure of working with Wes in the fall of 2010. I was planning to apply to UK colleges, and while I had an idea of what to expect from the Common Application from school, I was at a loss when faced with the English UCAS forms. Wes has experience in both the US and UK systems, having attended both Harvard and Cambridge, and helped clarify the UCAS where needed whilst editing my personal statement. He helped tremendously through his editing and by providing information, such as the different strengths of the colleges that make up Oxford. When I was called for interviews, the comment I heard most commonly was praise for my personal statement, something that I doubt would have been said without Wes’ expert guidance. He also helped me prepare for my interviews both on the phone and in person, covering all manner of possible topics relating to my subject of interest. My favourite thing about Wes overall though, would have to be the speed and quality of his advice. I could expect it within 24 hours of sending my draft (usually much sooner) and he would be available to discuss the proposed changes with over the phone.”

You pushed her to find a meaningful summer internship last year, which was a big part of her application, and continually urged her to take her school clubs to the next level. The encouragement and practical advice you provided as she wrote her essays gave her confidence in her writing and skills she will use the rest of her life.”

Because I’m an international student, I knew very little about the admissions process to American universities and was really stressed out about it. With Wes’s guidance, all the doubts and fears I had were gone. He helped me discover my potentials and whenever I felt discouraged or unmotivated he helped me think outside the box and see the admissions process from another perspective, teaching me perseverance through his actions and examples.

Wes also spent a lot of time getting to know me and it surely made a difference in the process. His edits on my essays, writing tips, reading suggestions and careful attention to my feelings as I wrote helped me to find my voice and, most of all, to know who I really am, with qualities and flaws, which is important not only for the admissions process, but for my entire life.

It was an amazing experience working with Wes and I would recommend it to everyone I know!

Best Wishes,

Aside from pure grammar and organization in writing, you also showed me how to be more creative and to know which details are the most essential ones. You even emphasized how to approach people in different ways, just by always being kind.

“You helped me reach my best in this process, I really do not think that I would have reached further without your help. Additionally, his availability and quick replies made the revision process a breeze. One thing that I really appreciate looking back on my experience with Wes is that in addition to putting forward a strong application, I also learned a multitude of skills applicable beyond the application process. But above all else, what really sets Wes apart from other college counselors is that he made me strive to put forward the absolute best application I could. I’m so grateful for all of your help through the application process. I couldn’t have done it without you.”

“From the beginning to the end of my college application process, Wes was there! His constant encouragement and expert advice were available from day one. Through texts, calls, and emails, Wes communicated often. Wes’ suggestions in my essays were more than helpful and, more importantly, kept my voice in the writing. His suggestions are just that: suggestions! He understands that as an applicant, we must own our work. Wes is also a master organizer and helped arrange my academic and extracurricular information in a concise, impressive manner. He aided in my admittance to four schools: Bowdoin, Brown, Dartmouth, and Duke. I strongly recommend Wes to any college applicant.”

“Wes has a unique ability to connect with and listen to students, thereby drawing out what makes them tic – and more importantly, showcasing their passions and interests that might not be so apparent from their resumes. This proved to be invaluable as it greatly helped in producing paths to pursue that were not evident to me. This actually helped me develop these interests in greater depth, thus becoming more interesting as a college candidate. It also produced a powerful and memorable essay subject that Wes helped develop to its fullest potential with useful, insightful input throughout the whole process. What’s great about Wes is his willingness to ‘”be there”‘ for his students no matter what stage of the college application process – Wes wants his students to succeed just as much as they do.”
